Today's confusion of trails

I spent the day hiking in the Annecy forest, theoretically following the GR96 to Semnoz. I never made it to the outlook (1699m) as it was listed as nearly a 6 hour hike.
Starting in town, at 450m, I made it to a 680m viewpoint, then wandered around trying to navigate using contradictory signs.
Mainly a well worn web of trails, with some nice forest and wild flowers, and finally a bit of a view of this, watching paragliders flitting up on the thermals above the lake.
