After today's cold and wet outing I stopped for rib sticking food (is there any other kind in this part of Germany I wonder) in downtown Fussen. I treated myself to a classic dessert at a place called Restaurant Aquila, a nice Italian flavoured Gasthaus. The saucebis strawberry and mounds of cream have chocolate sauce on them. Yum! Best I've had yet. The Italian influence is very strong here in Fussen, a border town popular with traders whip came by raft on the Via Claudia, an ancient trade route from points south. Apparently when the river Lech was high they could get to Augsburg in less than a day.
Well this morning I walked the riverside footpath in town, and the Lech is a roiling gray torrent. I think you'd make it to Augsburg in about one hour today, if you crazy enough to try it!
