Colonia

It looks like a construction site but it's an archaeological dig. The Cologne City Hall is built pretty much on top of an C11th synagogue and goldsmiths' community. So a new museum is underway. When Cologne excavated for its subway it dug up a lot more of its Roman and Medieval past. People have been visiting this part of the Rhine for a very very long time.
Tomorrow I'm heading to Hamburg. I've cancelled my plan to visit Dresden, as the flooding won't make it an easy place to enjoy. So I'm visiting more of northern Germany instead.
