In Speicherstadt (Wharehouse City)

Dodging the pedestrians who strayed into the red brick bike lane on this now hot and sunny Sunday, I rode Wm the Conqueror over the Niederbaumbrucke into Hamburg's urban waterfront redevelopment zone. It's like Seattle's lake facing Cascadia neighborhood, just a wee bit larger. Looks scrubbed, upscale and elaborately planned. No wonder it's the big tourist draw for locals. Imaginative, organized and full of future promise, no wonder the German tourists love it. An historically sensitive use of red brick, right now it's light on commercial tenants, apart from coffee shops, but there are big plans ahead. At one end it's anchored with a headquarters for Unilever, at the other is the mandatory Ferris wheel that every big city now must install on their waterfront.
It's an easy flat place to ride a bike on a Sunday.
