Winter is coming:4pm

Looking into the Alpine Lakes Wilderness. Mt Hinman behind firs on the left. Likely it's snowing here now, at 7pm on Saturday night

What are these??

At Sawyer Pass

I took the road less traveled, and it has made all the difference.

At Sawyer Pass

3.25 miles from the TH.

Saying goodbye

Just past the full moon. I took myself to a movie so I could mark the imminent passage of an important person in my life.
Thank you.

Brilliant students!

This week we're studying US money.

En route

The organic farms are bedding down for the winter but there's still room for this spectacular amaranth-like flower.

Knowing where to look

Off Mountain Loop Highway

Revel in being orange!

Looking back towards the mountains

D-i-y scarecrows

There be hobbits here

Downed larch branches

2nd creek crossings the PCT from Rainy Pass TH

Camp here next summer

It's a date.

Coffee in paradise

At the Cutthroat Pass summit (6,800').

Worth it

160 miles, 3 hours from Seattle. 3 hours at my 21 minute per mile pace, to 6,800 feet and gorgeous yellow granite terrain.

Pizza in Paradise

Cold pizza from my Friday movie night is the best trail food!

Muir wrote it

When we try to pick out anything by itself, we find it hitched to everything else in the universe.

Climbing up to Cutthroat Pass from the larch camping area

Bonanza!

Mountains seen to the SW from the Pass.

First views of larches

It's about noon on a brilliant but cold a Saturday in peak Larch Peeping season!

Diablo Lake Viewpoint

A fabulous last stop after riding from Washington Pass. I must plan to ride this again.

9am on Saturday

Heading out of the fog to the North Cascades.

Newhalem

Last "civilization" until Winthrop.

Looking back down the Porcupine Creek Valley

It's just over 5 miles to here, with 2,000' elevation.

Hillcrest Bakery

I pulled off the Burke Gilman at Bothell Landing to see what cafes were here. It's a very "old school" European bakery with good looking cookie and cakes that are overly sweet for my taste. Next time I'll buy a sausage roll instead. I didn't notice them until after I'd ordered.

My post work spin

I'm making the most of a brilliant fall afternoon following 2 days of rain.

At The Herb Farm

My turning point for my mid week afternoon ride on the Sammanish Trail.
