Pad Thai Seattle Variation

I can't recall the last time I made this delicious dish. It was once part of my regular cooking life. Glad I've returned after 5 or more years.

Streaming some joy into my home confinement: Muriel’s Wedding

Asian Family Market groceries

Some good stuff to use this week in my "cooking for one: may as well pay attention" plans during social distancing.

Sunday night pizza

Being able to cook makes social distancing a bit bearable.

Eggplant rollatini with all sorts of fridge veg

Deborah Madison's recipe for the eggplant. Making the time to cook and make the most of being shut in by covid-19. Another day closer to the end of quarantine.

Breakfast

Methodically working through leftovers to build new dishes. Fried rice never gets old!

Line up the repeat

As these will be hung as a pair, I remembered to line up the repeat. Little things mean a lot.

Ahhh

Hummus with salsa verde

Today's lunch.

Time to dive in

Gonna do something worthwhile with my enforced home detention. It's been a year since Dakar. I need the lift of African textiles in my windows.

Save us!

The life you save could be your own

Social distancing, patience and faith will defeat Coronavirus. Today on the Ballard Bridge for my daily head clearing ride.

Stuff you, pandemic!

My stress relief during the pandemic

Alone, in warm spring sunshine, surrounded by familiar beauty.

There sometimes is an upside

A splendid afternoon in the splendid white stuff with splendid company.

Tea for one in Magnolia

A beautiful, warm afternoon for a spirit-reviving bike ride. Another day of social distancing almost done.

Fishermen’s Wharf on Wednesday from the Ballard Bridge

Socially distanced at Golden Gardens

There are worse places to hang out by oneself.

Already had a birthday cake

A Princess from Byen Bakeri.

Happy birthday to me

Love the look but not planning to eat it.

Blueberry bushes more reasonably priced here

It's Skagit Valley 60 miles from Seattle.

Dinner at Skagit Valley Coop

I like this earthy hippie place in Mt Vernon. It offers real food at the hot self serve for $8.99/pound and gives me a better alternative to Starbucks and pastries post ride. I also enjoy the spring plants for sale.

32.2 mile loop Chuckanut Drive Bow to Lake Samish

Some of the earliest riding I've done on Chuckanut. Usually come up to Bellingham later, like May. But I'm motivated by upcoming Cascade events in April. Once you get warmed up, it's great. Bald eagles, sculling shells racing on Lake Samish, early spring flowers like Indian plum, daffodils, pussy willows. And I'm proud of my stick-to-it-ness.

Can Spring be far behind?

Off Golden Gardens on Saturday March 7

Is this an unintended comment from the Corinthian Yacht Club about the endless bad news. Presidential politics, COVID-19, stock market gyrations? Didn't the Ancient Greeks use black sails to signify death?
