A pleasant room downtown to check progress on Alaskan Way.

Friday Nov ride on Snoqualmie Valley trail from Duvall

A bonus ride between flooding rain in November. All the leaves are down and brown and it's wet and sandy so the bike is ready for a good wash. But I made 32 miles before calling it good and warming up in Carnation.

Tuesday November 12 and back in the saddle

Today's totally enjoyable spin through places I know. Errands then a return through the Ballard Locks. A spirit lifter.

Mutianyu section of the Great Wall. Cable car for 140 yuan return to tower 14 and a walk along for 3-4 guard posts. Definitely impressive!

One of the more interesting routes

Friday October 18 into Saturday October 19. I got lucky with a somewhat adjustable Comfort Select seat. But still a 12 hour slog.

Doing the Cascade Loop

My last full weekend of sunshine in October before I fly to Shanghai so I'm doing the classic leaf peep. The parked car pandemonium and overcrowding at the THs for Maple and Cutthtroat Passes is intolerable. I like larches but not in the company of the 2,000 of my fellow day hikers.

Outrider dispatch volunteering for KCC

A new shorter route via green lake to join Burke Gilman and avoid UW congestion.

A little bit of the PCT to Lodge Lake

On a glorious sunny Thursday, I hiked 4.7 miles, with 843' elevation starting at Snoqualmie Pass and ending at Lodge Lake. I was here earlier this year, in July. The ski resort is prepping its slopes for the coming season. On the PCT, I found lots of mushrooms, including some edible Bears Paw, which I left because they're not yet big enough. It was great to return later in the season. But it's easy to sense that winter is on its way.

Saturday August 31 off south

Leaving Seattle's hot weather and off to Australia for the first time since December 2018. Let the homesickness begin. No, it's gonna be a different and good experience.

Gold Run Pass

Saturday's splendid day hike off the Yellow Aster Butte trail. My Green trails dates before 1997, when a new trail was cut off the Tomyhoi trail and Keep Cool decommissioned. Would make a nice loop if it ever came back.
Fun to meet up with a large hiking group from Eugene on Gold Run Pass.

Thursday Bike ride from Pedro Woolley to Concrete with friends

50 miles at a pace I'm not used to keeping. But good company, and barely threatening rain. A scenic anti clockwise ride along the South Skagit Highway and back on Highway 20 and Bike Route 10.

Obliteride Friday kickoff in Gasworks Park

Riders and runners are picking up their event packets on an extraordinary hot August evening in a rather wonderful location on Lake Union. Tomorrow I'm riding support on the 50-mile course.

Sunday August 8 trip to Corral Pass TH

A hot, short day hike near Mt Rainier. The Corral Pass Road (FS7174) was 6 miles of steep, narrow, and rocky road that was a challenge to my Honda Element. But we made it up and back and had an immensely scenic walk in the silver ghost forest of the Norse Peak Wilderness. I thought I was returning to Noble Knob by a different route. It's possible to hike through to Noble (2.5 miles from here, but it's less hair raising to take the longer, gentler logging roads from just outside Greenwater. Good company with Alison and Dora. Phenomenal views of the Mt R, the distant Enchantments, Mt Adams and a slice of the Goat Rocks. Flowers are almost spent here.

July 19 in my garden

Some early morning gardening on another hot day to come

I managed to transplant a few tomatoes, clean out some weeds, and pick some broken stems before it got too hot. The weather is pleasant in the morning and gets more stuffy once the afternoon wears on. Any plant that's already established and well watered is thriving, but other seedlings are waiting for a cooler cloudy day.

Two excellent Mexican dishes for a hot July

Roasted poblano and potato salad with tuna, and classic Tortilla soup. Both from Rick Bayless. Groceries are so expensive this summer? I'm committed to putting in the effort to make excellent dishes.

Back in the saddle

Such a hot day (86 degrees) so an easy ride to Columbia City with plenty of rest stops. I have only one bandaid on the last scab, but the bike seat isn't interfering. Made it to take P walkies and water the garden. Ate 2 sun golds and saw L's hawk quietly drinking from the bird bath out back. Now going home on light rail.

5 miles on the PCT to get confidence back

Last week's hiking injuries have dampened my sense of confidence so today I did a recovery hike to look at flowers, do this section of the PCT for the first time, and practice my balance. All in all, a good decision, and nice to chat with PCT trails crew building a new rock step on this very well used section.

40 miles on a hot day Bay View to Edison to Sedro Woolley to Mt Vernon loop

A challenge due to the hot weather, but very scenic and a good distance.
