July 19 in my garden

Some early morning gardening on another hot day to come

I managed to transplant a few tomatoes, clean out some weeds, and pick some broken stems before it got too hot. The weather is pleasant in the morning and gets more stuffy once the afternoon wears on. Any plant that's already established and well watered is thriving, but other seedlings are waiting for a cooler cloudy day.

Two excellent Mexican dishes for a hot July

Roasted poblano and potato salad with tuna, and classic Tortilla soup. Both from Rick Bayless. Groceries are so expensive this summer? I'm committed to putting in the effort to make excellent dishes.

Back in the saddle

Such a hot day (86 degrees) so an easy ride to Columbia City with plenty of rest stops. I have only one bandaid on the last scab, but the bike seat isn't interfering. Made it to take P walkies and water the garden. Ate 2 sun golds and saw L's hawk quietly drinking from the bird bath out back. Now going home on light rail.

5 miles on the PCT to get confidence back

Last week's hiking injuries have dampened my sense of confidence so today I did a recovery hike to look at flowers, do this section of the PCT for the first time, and practice my balance. All in all, a good decision, and nice to chat with PCT trails crew building a new rock step on this very well used section.

40 miles on a hot day Bay View to Edison to Sedro Woolley to Mt Vernon loop

A challenge due to the hot weather, but very scenic and a good distance.
