Riding local, riding abroad. Doesn't matter. "One less car" bike commuting and "Bikes Belong" advocacy, plus "I ride solo" bicycle travel. Racing is fun, but there are so many equally great reasons to ride.

Mutianyu section of the Great Wall. Cable car for 140 yuan return to tower 14 and a walk along for 3-4 guard posts. Definitely impressive!

One of the more interesting routes
Friday October 18 into Saturday October 19. I got lucky with a somewhat adjustable Comfort Select seat. But still a 12 hour slog.

Doing the Cascade Loop
My last full weekend of sunshine in October before I fly to Shanghai so I'm doing the classic leaf peep. The parked car pandemonium and overcrowding at the THs for Maple and Cutthtroat Passes is intolerable. I like larches but not in the company of the 2,000 of my fellow day hikers.

A little bit of the PCT to Lodge Lake
On a glorious sunny Thursday, I hiked 4.7 miles, with 843' elevation starting at Snoqualmie Pass and ending at Lodge Lake. I was here earlier this year, in July. The ski resort is prepping its slopes for the coming season. On the PCT, I found lots of mushrooms, including some edible Bears Paw, which I left because they're not yet big enough. It was great to return later in the season. But it's easy to sense that winter is on its way.
