September 14 Grand Bazaar

Today is our chosen day to negotiate for lamps. Lauren is very good at setting a price and keeping a poker face. The shop miscalculated at first, not immediately clearing space on the sofa among the boxes and displays, not immediately sending out for tea. If we'd not been interested in the lamps we'd have simply walked out. But we stuck to our guns, flattered the salesman, holding out for the right punch pattern, lamp size and shape. Despite several attempts to fob us off with existing stock we wouldn't cooperate, ignoring (politely) all red herrings, like the value of the a Turkish lira at some point in the past. We also had American dollar bills in our wallets, easily substituted for prices quoted in euros. I got the tagine shaped small lamp, which was fitted with a plug for US current, and small feet to become a desk vs pendant lamp.
