Well, it's Valentine's Day. As a single woman, I work hard to keep upbeat, and I refuse to let the lack of a partner get me down. This "Hallmark Holiday" is particularly difficult at home, in cold Seatt, but it's different here. Completely by happenstance I'm in Queenstown, and 16 days into my trip I decided to treat myself to a proper restaurant meal. This is what I ordered at My Thai Lounge. The coconut rice is the best I've ever had. Someone must be grating fresh coconuts out back. The vegan coconut mushroom soup is balanced by the spicy pork and green bean daily special. No booze as I just had a $3.50 small pour of Marlborough region Champagne-style wine at The Winery, a shop that dispenses a good selection of kiwi wines from a high tech vending machine. Instead I have Thai Iced Tea. The meal is exceptionally good. You'd think I'd just completed the Rees Dart track, instead of my pleasant 8-mile ramble into the hills behind the campground. But I'm hungry for real food instead of the limited choices you have cooking for one in backpacker kitchens filled with random dishes and cookware.
