From the Mile 1016 Pub in Haines Jct

Typical example of life on the road for the past 4 weeks: extravagant flower boxes jammed with petunias and matching patriotic colored windmills, 2 German bikers doing the dream "Born to be Wild" road trip, and checking into a well-weathered motel, and above it all, an enormous mountain range of glaciated peaks glowing in the light of an evening thunderstorm.
Add in the sound track: country twang on the audio system, a group of French speakers behind me, and a quartet of Anglo Canadian retirees who arrived in the Roadtrek camper parked outside the window to my right.
I'm having a glass of BC merlot, a superior chicken burger, and feeling pretty happy to be done with 300 miles of frost heaves and dusty Al Can road work. Tomorrow my goal is Whitehorse and a turn South back into America to Skagway.
