Riding local, riding abroad. Doesn't matter. "One less car" bike commuting and "Bikes Belong" advocacy, plus "I ride solo" bicycle travel. Racing is fun, but there are so many equally great reasons to ride.

All the 1st time tourist mistakes in Denali NP
Starting a bike ride on 2 pieces of toast and a cup of coffee at 10am in mid-80s weather starting with a 10% grade climb was my introduction to riding the Denali Park Road. You'd think I'd be smarter about this. Ha ha it took me 1.5 hours to ride 6 miles. I'd paid for a seat on the 1pm shuttle to the Eielson visitors center at MP 66, and it cost $34 so I didn't want to miss it. So I turned around at 11:30am and took exactly 20 minutes to get back. That's because 10% grades in your favor are the best things ever. I'm taking the bike on the bus out and I will ask the driver to let me at Savage River CG MP15. My plan is to ride back to the park entrance.
