Happy 4th of July

I couldn't decide if the Independence Day activities on another grey morning in Fairbanks would be worth it, so I drove in sunshine to the 85.5 mile post on the Steese Highway. Walked briefly on some boards set in the tundra, looking at alpine flowers and dodging bugs, then sat out a thunderstorm and heavy rain. It was a lovely drive out through active gold mining mixed with relics like rusted gold dredges and large tailing piles being colonized by silver birch saplings.
